Drama in River State as Fubara aborts police aided impeachment process
PORT HARCOURT – There was acute drama in River State, following the decision of the River State House of Assembly to announce the impeachment process on governor Seminalaye Fubara.
The lawmakers had assembled to carry out an illegal impeachment process of Governor Siminalaye Fubara but they were forced to evacuate when the governor stormed the assembly with his team and chased the lawmakers out of the assembly complex.
Earlier the Nigerian Police Force, had barricaded the road leading to the state assembly complex with their vehicles and started tear-gassing the governor and pouring hot water from their nearby vehicle on the governor abd his entourage.
But the antics failed as the governor went through the water soaked and stormed the complex where his team succeeded in dispersing the impeachment hungry lawmakers.
Speaking at the assembly complex, Fubara said today “somebody will die here”. The governor who was looking very tired said the security agencies have been compromised, adding that they were shooting at him on his way to the complex.
“They were shooting at me. Somebody will die here”, he said, adding that he is not planning anything against anybody but that nobody can sit when there is a problem adding that as the chief security officer, he remains the only person to provide an alternative place for the lawmakers to sit.
He called on the people of Rivers State to pray for him, describing the development as very unfortunate and similar to what was experienced in the house 16 years ago.
He said he is a peaceful person, and that even if he is aware of a plot to impeach him, he is not bothered. But a facility of this nature should not be destroyed to please somebody.
