Death toll rises on both sides as Israel, Hamas intensify attacks
GAZA, Occupied West Bank – The death toll, five days into the fierce fighting between Israel and Palestine has risen as fighting intensifies between the warring parties.
So far, 1055 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli air strikes and about 5,000 people have been injured, while 1200 Israelis have died from barrage of rockets launched into Israel by Hamas while 2, 700 people have been injured.
The casualty on the side of Israel was heavily minimised by the strength of the air defence system, the Iron Dome, which has successfully intercepted hundreds of rockets midair and preventing them from landing indiscriminately in Israel.
Few rockets are however able to escape the Dome, causing casualties in cities across Israel. However, the airstrikes have not been able to deter continued launch of rockets from Gaza even as the Israeli Minister of Defence, Yoav Gallant has ordered complete blockade of Gaza, cutting off food, fuel and electricity.
He described Hamas as human animals that ought to be dealt with as such, stressing that the response of Israel to Hamas will change security situation in the Middle East.
At least about 187,000 Palestinians have been displaced by the airstrikes in Gaza
Meanwhile, most of the air defense system set by Hamas have been destroyed by the IDF strikes.
