Says INEC inflated APC results in 9 polling units

ABUJA, Nigeria -In a landmark ruling, the Court of Appeal in Abuja today declared, ‘Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party as the duly elected candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial Election held in February 2023.
The court also dismissed the appeal filed by Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress for lacking in merit.”
This decision comes in the wake of the state’s Election Petitions Tribunal’s earlier verdict in September, which had also declared Akpoti-Uduaghan as the rightful winner of the Kogi Central Senatorial election.
The tribunal went further to invalidate Abubakar Ohere’s victory, with Tribunal Chairman Justice K. A. Orjiako stating that “Ohere’s results were inflated in nine polling units in the Ajaokuta Local Government Area.”
He also noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had reduced Natasha’s results in these areas while omitting the results of three other polling units meant for her in the same LGA.
Despite the appeal filed by Ohere in response to the Tribunal’s judgment, the Court of Appeal upheld Akpoti-Uduagan’s victory, confirming her as the duly elected Senator for Kogi Central.
Notably, prior to the Court of Appeal’s decision, Akpoti-Uduaghan had made a public plea to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, asking for a review of the senatorial election’s outcome in Kogi Central.
