Kabir Yusuf contested under the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, while Nasir Gawuna ran under the ticket of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
According to the result of the election declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP secured 1,019,602 votes, while Nasir Gawuna of APC scored 890,705 votes.
The NNPP candidate thus won the election with a margin of 128,897 votes. Gawuna congratulated Yusuf after the results were declared but the APC objected and filled processes before the tribunal.
But the Governorship Tribunal which delivered the judgement online, via zoom few minutes ago held that Gawuna won the election and ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return which it presented to Yusuf, and directed that a new certificate of return be issued to Gawuna.
The tribunal declared Gawuna winner after deducting 165,663 votes, which it said were invalid from Yusuf, stressing that the ballot papers (165,663) were neither stamped nor signed and therefore invalid.
The ruling came weeks after both parties closed their case since 21 August.
