CALABAR – Former Senate Leader and ex-Chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, joined some members of staff at Start-Rite International School to receive Chukwudubem Amasiani, a 12-year-old JSS2 student doing the school proud in the game of lawn tennis.  

The young Amasiani recently emerged as one of the champions in the boys’ category of the Ghana 2023 ITC/CAT West and Central Africa U-12 Tennis tournament that will now feature at the African lawn tennis championship expected to hold in October this years.

The Start-Rite student also won the boys category final at the just concluded 4th Alhaji Adewale Isa Foundation (AIF), national junior tennis championship in Lagos. The tournament held at the Tennis Complex of the National Stadium Surulere, had about 200 kids from over 15 states of the federation competing for different titles in the annual event. 

The amazing young talent in Nigerian junior tennis game, had likewise in July this year clinched the two titles up for grabs at the NNPC/SNEPCo National Junior Tennis Championship for the under 12 and under 14 boys categories which took place in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital. 

Receiving the young tennis lad, Ndoma-Egba, who is the Chairman of the Advisory Board of Start-Rite Schools founded by his late wife, Amaka, commended the boy for the remarkable feats he has recorded as a young tennis player.

He rejoiced with him and assured him that he would be present at the African Championship to give him the needed moral support to lift the African title. 

The Start-Rite advisory board helmsman said he is looking forward to seeing the young Amasiani at Grand Slams since he has chosen to make a career in lawn tennis. 

His 10-year-old younger brother, Ikem, who is also in the junior tennis circuit will be joining Start-Rite in the new academic year.
