BERLIN – Three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber is working again with her former coach Torben Beltz as she prepares to make her comeback after having a baby.

Kerber has been training with Beltz in Puszczykowo, Poland, for several weeks. Her management confirmed on Wednesday that she plans to start the season together with Beltz at the beginning of January 2024 in Australia.

With Beltz, Kerber won the Australian Open and the US Open in 2016, when she also topped the women’s tennis rankings. They worked together from 2004 to 2021.

Kerber then competed without a permanent coach until the summer of 2022, when she took a break to have her baby. Her daughter Liana was born in February.

Her goals are “definitely the titles and definitely the big tournaments,” the 35-year-old told dpa in an interview this summer.

Her first target is the Australian Open in January 2024, but first she plans to compete in tune-up tournaments.

Beltz recently worked with 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu.
