Eintracht Frankfurt clears air on Kolo Muani
FRANKFURT – Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani will be transferring to Paris Saint-Germain after last-minute negotiations, the Bundesliga club announced early Saturday.
The 24-year-old recently skipped team training to force the transfer and is now going for a record transfer fee of €95 million ($102.3 million).
Eintracht Frankfurt and Paris Saint-Germain resumed negotiations for Kolo Muani after both clubs initially didn’t reach an agreement on Friday, according to several media reports.
After the deal fell through earlier, PSG increased their offer to €95 million, the Bild newspaper said. Kolo Muani has a contract with Frankfurt until 2027.
The transfer window in Germany closed at 6 pm (1600 GMT), but clubs in France have until 11 pm to sign new players. At PSG, the forward would sign a contract until 2028.
Dpa has learned that the deal initially fell through because the signing of Hugo Ekitiké, who would replace Kolo Muani, didn’t go ahead as planned.
The transfer fee of €35 million asked by PSG for the 21-year-old plus the annual salary of around €8 million would damage Frankfurt’s finances.
Since both sides were unable to agree on Ekitiké and no other striker could be signed at short notice, Frankfurt ended the negotiations after intensive talks.
The Bundesliga club had reportedly been demanding €100 million to release the player, while PSG initially offered around €90 million.
