Tottenham rejects Bayern’s latest offer for top striker Harry Kane
MUNICH – Tottenham has rejected Bayern Munich’s latest offer for their top striker Harry Kane, the online news portal The Athletic reported on Monday.
According to media reports, Tottenham expect a transfer fee of at least €100 million ($109.9 million) for their record goalscorer.
TV channel Sky and the Bild newspaper said at the weekend that Bayern improved their offer last week and were willing to spend a club record sum of around that figure for Kane, 30.
The clubs held talks in London last week, however, according to the Athletic, they remained around £25 million ($31.9 million) apart in their valuation of the England captain.
Bayern had a first bid of €70 million plus add-ons for Kane rejected in June, before a second increased proposal was turned down at the start of July.
Kane is Bayern’s top transfer target as the current forwards were unable last season to compensate for the departure of Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona last summer.
In the event that the clubs do not reach an agreement, Kane would probably fulfil his contract in London and could then leave Tottenham for free in July 2024.
The attacker has long ruled out an extension. Spurs owner Joe Lewis is said to have instructed club boss Daniel Levy to sell Kane now.
Tottenham’s Premier League season begins on August 13 with an away game at Brentford. Bayern’s league season starts the week afterwards.
