INDIA – Few days after a successful launch of Chandrayaan 3 into the moon, India is now preparing to launch another satellite, this time Aditya-L1 into the Sun, the Indian Space Research Organisation, ISRO has said.

It is the first Indian observatory mission to study the sun.

The launch of the Aditya-L1 Sun Space Observation mission  is scheduled for either September 2 or 4th, 2023.

India hopes to  record a first with this mission by placing  Aditya-L1 at a distance  never achieved by any nation.

“India’s #ISRO to launch #AdityaL1 Sun Space Observatory mission either on 2nd or 4th September”, ISRO said in a statement, adding that  AdityaL1 will be placed at Lagrange point which is 1.5 million Km from earth & will take 109 days to reach it.

“It’s the maiden #indian mission to study the Sun & the craft will be stationed 1.5mn kms away from the earth(an #ISRO craft has never been placed so far away from earth)”, the Indian Space Research Organisation, ISRO said.

“Initially, the spacecraft will be placed on on a Low Earth orbit. “Subsequently, the orbit will be made more elliptical and later the spacecraft will be launched towards the Lagrange point, L1 by using onboard propulsion”, the ISRO said.

It added that, “As it travels towards L1, it will exit the Earth’s gravitational sphere of influence, SOI. After exit from SOI, the cruise will phase will start and subsequently the spacecraft will be injected into a large halo orbit around L1”, it said, adding that the total travel time from launch to L1 will take about four months for Aditya-L1.

Citizens are invited to witness the launch from the Launch View Gallery at Sriharikota by registering here: https://lvg.shar.gov.in/VSCREGISTRATION/index.jsp… Commencement of registration will be announced there. https://isro.gov.in/Aditya_L1.html
