Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Kepa almost in Bayern’s kitty, says Dreesen
MUNICH – Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich were close to signing Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said on Sunday.
“We were very close the day before yesterday, for example. We wanted to have presented Kepa as goalkeeper today if he hadn’t decided to join Real Madrid after all,” Dreesen said during the official presentations of forward Harry Kane.
Kepa is to reportedly join Real Madrid on loan. Bayern are looking for a new goalkeeper after the comeback of Manuel Neuer from a leg fracture was delayed and last season’s starter Yann Sommer moved to Inter Milan.
At the moment, Sven Ulreich is the only experienced goalkeeper in the squad.
“I am convinced that we will find a solution by September 1. In Sven Ulreich we have a goalkeeper who is always there when it matters,” Dreesen said.
“We’re confident that Manuel will come back over the course of the second half of the year, but we can’t predict exactly. We hope we can present a solution to the situation soon,” he added.
