Arewa media hails Senate, says war with Niger will spill into Northern Nigeria
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners has hailed the Nigerian Senate for not approving the proposal by President Bola Tinubu to go to war with Niger over a recent coup that toppled a democratically elected government of President Mohamed Bazoum.
In a statement, the group, which described Tinubu as a stooge of the west said going to war with Niger will not begin and end in Niamey, the Nigerian capital but that it will spill over and snowball into neighbouring northern Nigerian communities in Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Jigawa, Katsina, Yobe and Borno State.
It added that the coup which began as a palace coup in Niger has now become a rallying point for anti neo colonial struggle not only in Niger but in the rest of francophone West Africa.
“Even these nations of ECOWAS have come to terms with the reality of the coup as a fait accompli that can’t be easily reversed”, the group said in the statement by its Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Yelwa, urging all Nigerians to rise with one voice and dissuade ECOWAS from what it called fatal misadventure.
The Arewa broadcast media believes that the responsibility of sustaining democracy in Niger remains the solemn duty of the people of Niger.
“The responsibility of its neighbour friends like Nigeria is not to exacerbate an already bad situation but to support democratic institutions and pray for her in time of needs”, the Arewa group said.
The group called on Tinubu to restore power supply to Niger, suspend all war initiatives and seek a diplomatic solution to the crisis.
It also called for restoration diplomatic ties with Niger, open the borders and employ a carrot and stick approach to the imbroglio.
