Zelensky signs law banning books from Russia, Belarus
KIEV – President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a bill into law banning books from Russia and its ally, Belarus.
Speaking after signing the law, Zelensky said the text of the law was first sent to the European Institutions for assessment whether certain provisions of the law could affect the fulfillment of obligations to protect the linguistic rights of minorities.
Already there are allegations that these are some of the obligations Zelenksy is required to fulfill on the way to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, NATO.
Zelensky’s Ukraine has been pressing to become member of NATO, hoping that membership of the institution will deter Russian aggression.
However, NATO has been the backbone of Ukraine since Russia started waging war on Ukraine. So far NATO, through its alliance has supplied Ukraine weapons in excess of $46.6 billion.
But it appears the commitment has not been able to propel Ukraine on the winning side in its counteroffensive against Russia as it seems to be loosing on all fronts, with soldiers and militants being captured with many giving themselves to Russian armed forces.
