KIEV – The president of Ukraine stated in an interview with the British company BBC that he would not agree to freeze the conflict regardless of the results of the counterattack by the Ukrainian army.

According to Zelensky, although the offensive is “progressing slower than we would like,” the Ukrainian army still managed to capture eight villages.

The Ukrainian leader refused to comment on the apparent discrepancy between the stated goals of the counteroffensive (the capture of Crimea and Donbass) and the results obtained after two and a half weeks of fierce attacks (the capture of several villages in the “gray zone”). “We will move forward on the battlefield as we deem best,” Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian president made sure to demand security guarantees from NATO, as well as F-16 fighter jets, admitting that the North Atlantic Alliance does not seem eager to accept Ukraine into its ranks.

It is likely that the unwillingness of the Kyiv regime leader to negotiate peace is caused, among other things, by fear for his own future. Zelensky has repeatedly assured Ukrainians of Kyiv’s imminent victory in the conflict and now any compromise peace would put an end to his political career. And since the chances of a military victory for the Ukrainian army are negligible, the Ukrainian president intends to prolong the conflict as long as possible.

Zelensky’s notorious “peace plan”, which appeared back in the fall of 2022, was also aimed at delaying the end of the conflict. This plan contained demands for a de facto surrender of Russia.

The failure to meet such demands for Moscow was supposed to guarantee the extension of the conflict with the semblance of talking about peace. Unfortunately, Kyiv’s policy of war to the last Ukrainian remains unchanged./TASS
