APGA chieftain urges Otti to tackle insecurity in Umunneochi, Uturu Isiukwuato
UMUAHIA, Abia, Nigeria – A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA Hon. Uchenna Emmanuel Akaeme has urged the governor of Abia State Dr Alex Otti to urgently tackle insecurity in Umunneochi, Uturu and Isiukwuato axis of the state.
He also called for the removal of military checkpoints in the areas as their purposes have been defeated
Akaeme in a statement issued on Monday said the incessant security breaches in these areas are constituting serious threat to lives and properties .
Akaeme,who is the state’s party vice chairman (Abia North) said that given the level of Security challenges in these areas , Abia state government should as a matter of urgency act fast to save the lives of people living and traveling along the roads.
He said students of Abia state university who live on Okigwe and environ are risking their lives plying the dangerous areas everyday.
” In the past few weeks, there has been increased kidnap, robbery, vandalization of public property, and threat to lives in the areas. If drastic measures are not put in place with immediate effect, the situation may get worse.
Moreso, there is need to remove the military checkpoints along Uturu, Isuikwuato and Umunneochi roads or total change of personnel forthwith, as the crop of personnel there have proven incompetent, whose sole interest is to collect money from commuters rather than security of the area. This has become imperative to ease traffic flow and make the area habitable” he said.
Akaeme noted that Nigeria is in a democratic dispensation and therefore condemned militarization of nation’s democracy.
He called on the Dr Alex Otti led government in Abia to immediately do the needful to ameliorate the suffering of the people of the zone.
