Tinubu sworn in as President of Nigeria
ABUJA, Nigeria – Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu was today sworn in as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at a ceremony at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
He was sworn in along with his vice, Kasim Shettima. They were sworn in despite condemnation of the way they were declared winner of the February 15 general election held in Nigeria.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu declared Tinubu winner of the election even when he was told publicly to crosscheck facts from the BVAS and IREV deployed by INEC during the election.
Tinubu’s declaration is being challenged at the Presidential Election Tribunal by former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peopled Democratic Party, PDP and that of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi.
Both Atiku and Obi have told the court that the declaration of Tinubu as winner of the election when he failed to secure 25 percent in the Federal Capital Territory as required by the 1999 constitution of Nigeria amounts to an affront on the constitution and democracy.
They are also contending that Tinubu, a confirmed former drug lord based on his records in Chicago, United States does not qualify to run for the election.
They are also contending that Tinubu does not have the certificates he claims in the forms he submitted to INEC for the election. They are also accusing him of perjury when he claimed he attended St. Paul Primary School Aroloya, Lagos, whereas the school was not in existence on the date he quoted in his INEC form.
They are also challenging the results declared by INEC, which are variance with what is uploaded on BVAS and INEC IREV, which shows Peter Obi of the Labour Party as the clear winner of the February 15 general election.
