Seun Kuti remanded for slapping policeman

YABA, Lagos – Police slapper and heir of the Anikulapo Kuti family, Seun Kuti has been remanded in police custody. He was remanded after his arraignment at the Yaba Magistrate Court, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos.
The Afrobeat musician was remanded for slapping and shoving a police offer, who allegedly approached him for bashing his car in Lagos.
Seun Kuti was charged with assault of a police officer contrary to Section 356 of the Nigerian Criminal Code Act.
The police prosecutor, S. A Adebese, prayed the court to remand the defendant for 21 days pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
Following his appearance, the Magistrate partially granted the police prayer and remanded him in police custody for 48 hours pending investigation and DPP advice.
Seun Kuti surrendered himself to the Lagos State Police Command, GRA Lagos following the order of the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba to arrest and prosecute him for assaulting a very gentle policeman.
He was subsequently put on handcuff and passed the first night in police custody before his arraignment. He will now spend 48 hours in police custody before he will be arraigned before a high court.
