Police begin trial of officers assaulting man with manchette in viral video
OWERRI, Imo, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police has commenced orderly room trial of six policemen who were seen in a viral video flogging and assaulting two unarmed men in the street in Imo State.
In a statement relating the development, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Muyiwa Adejobi identified the five officers involved as Inspector Amadi Sunday (The Team Leader); Inspector Amajuoji Charlse; Sgt Noachian Chinese; Sgt Onwuka Emmanuel; Cpl Nzewuodo Goodness and Pc Emmanuel Chmezie.
In the video, which has gone viral, the five officers were seen assaulting two young men, holding them by the waist, as they shoved one of the young men into the nearby bush after handcuffing one of his hands and physically tour his shirt in the process of assaulting him.
One of the officer was seen armed with a AK 47 riffle and a matchette, which he used in inflicting injuries on one of the unarmed men as they shove him into a nearby bush.
In the same video, three other officers were also seen physically assaulting a second man, shoving him beside the Sienna parked along the road.
