ADAMAWA, Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, managed to arrest what is remaining of its terribly battered image after the shameful 2023 general election by declaring the Governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Umaru Fintiri as winner of the supplementary election held last Saturday in the state.
It was like the proverbial triumph of evil over good as the will of the people triumphed in what appeared to be a well orchestrated plot by INEC to sink further into the mire of disrepute, following the declaration of Senator Aishatu Dahiru Benani by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, a move that was widely resisted with beating almost to stupor of the REC, forcing INEC to pull the breaks by annulling Benani’s declaration to prevent what appears to be a clear path to anarchy.
Following the suspension of the REC, the INEC Returning Officer, Muhammed Melee, declared returned to collation centre earlier today, wherein it completed the process, culminating in the declaration of the incumbent governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party winner of the election.
According to the Melee, Fintiri polled 430,861 votes to defeat his major counterpart Aisha Binani of the All Progressives Congress who scored 398,788 votes.
