MUNICH – Bundesliga top scorer Niclas Füllkrug of Werder Bremen said he will only handle a possible transfer to another club at the end of the current season.

“It’s not that easy, because every now and then something comes in and you’re confronted with it,” he told an interview to the news portal Deichstube published on Friday.

He said that he personally had a very good season with Bremen so far and “we played a very good season as a team, so it would be a waste if I were too preoccupied with my future ahead of the last few games.”

Füllkrug’s contract with Bremen runs until summer 2025, but his stellar season with the club and the German national team – which included a trip to the World Cup in Qatar last year – have led to rumours that the forward could be on his way out this summer.

He stressed, however, that a contract extension with Bremen is not off the table.

“Why not? I’ve been playing here for four years and I extremely like to do so,” he said.
