BERLIN- Werder Bremen striker Niclas Füllkrug has said he will consult national team coach Hansi Flick over his club future in order not to jeopardise his place on the team for next year’s Euros in Germany.

“I will definitely have a lengthy talk with Hansi on this issue,” Füllkrug told the Kicker meets DAZN podcast.

“The Euros are approaching. And I want to remain attractive for the national team coach and continue to fill my role there,” he said, adding that Flick has “a lot of experience.”

Füllkrug, 30, tops the Bundesliga scoring charts with 16 goals. He has a contract in Bremen until 2025 but there is speculation he could move elsewhere in summer, with Füllkrug and the club saying they would talk towards the end of the season.

Bremen official Clemens Fritz has said there has been no signal from Füllkrug that he aimed to leave, but the club could also do with the income a summer sale would generate.

Former Germany and Bayern Munich captain Lothar Matthäus meanwhile suggested that Bayern should consider getting Füllkrug rather than Tottenham’s Harry Kane in their alleged search for a new striker.

“I would consider Harry Kane too old and too expensive,” Matthäus told Sky TV. “The price-performance ratio could speak for Niclas Füllkrug. He could probably be had for 20-25 million (euros – $21.9-27.3 million) and also score 25 goals in Munich.”

Kane, 29, would likely cost Bayern in the region of $100 million and Matthäus said he was not sure whether the club was ready to spend such a sum.

Matthäus said that other reported candidates, Radal Kolo Munai of Eintracht Frankfurt and Victor Osimhen of Napoli, could also be a good fit if Bayern decide to bolster their attack.
