SPAIN- After announcing thousands of job cuts in Germany and Britain, US carmaker Ford, will now eliminate 1,100 more positions in Spain, the company said on Friday.

The redundancies are due to the planned discontinuation in April of production of the S-Max and Galaxy models at the Ford plant in Almussafes, south of Valencia.

Currently, 5,800 workers are still employed at the plant, which was opened in 1976 during the rule of Spanish dictator Francisco Franco. The company is working with the unions to carry out the job cuts in the most socially acceptable way possible, Ford said.

Earlier, Ford announced the loss of 2,300 jobs in Germany and 1,000 more in Britain. The carmaker is in a state of upheaval, having embarked on a path towards electrification of the fleet relatively late. From 2030, Ford plans to sell only electric cars in the EU.
