NMDPRA to sanction petrol stations insisting on cash for purchase of petroleum products

Insists on use of POS, bank transfers

LAGOS – The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA has directed petrol stations not using inhouse POS to facilitate purchases of fuel to do so in support of seamless transition to the new Naira and cashless society.

This is coming as petrol stations have been seen forcing customers to pay with cash and making deals with  people doing POS business who are brought into the petrol stations, making customers to withdraw cash at exorbitant rates which are consequently shared on percentage bases between the stations and the POS operators.

The NMDPRA said the development is causing untold hardship to many Nigerians at a time when all hands should be on deck to assist the government in the transition to the new Naira.

It directed petrol stations to ensure free use of POS and bank transfers for the sale of petroleum products to alleviate the suffering of customers at this critical time.

NMDPRA  warned that it will now pay an unscheduled visits to petrol stations across the federation to enforce compliance with the directive and sanction violators.

“The authority and security agencies will be at retail outlets to ensure compliance with this directive and any filling station found violating this directive will be sanctioned”, he said.

The NMDPRA  assured the general public of commitment to ensuring good quality service in the sale and distribution of petroleum products nationwide.
