Optimal Cancer Care MD remanded for defilement, rape

IKEJA, Lagos – The Medical Director of Optimal Cancer Care, Ikoyi, Dr. Femi Olaleye has been remanded in prison custody by the Domestic and Special Offences Court, sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.

Justice Ramon Oshodi ordered his remand, following his arraignment before the court for alleged rape and defilement of 16 year old niece of his wife, (names withheld).

Olaleye pleaded not guilty to the two count charges brought against him  and was consequently admitted to bail in the sum of N50 million and two sureties in like sum.  He is however to deposit copies of his International passport and his British Passport with the registrar.

Justice Oshodi ordered that Dr. Olaleye be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, pending perfection of his bail.

Earlier, during the trial, his defence counsel, Mr. Babatunde Ogala, SAN had sought for his bail, stressing that an accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty. He added that his defendant is willing to proceed with the trial of the case.

But the DPP, Dr. Babajide Martins argued that while condition for bail is well noted in law, the offence however attracts life sentence.

Meanwhile Justice Oshodi has fixed December 19 and 21 for commencement of trial.
