PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria – The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC has assured orphans in the Niger Delta region of the support of the Commission in ameliorating the hardships they face.

The NDDC Acting Managing Director, Engr. Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua, spoke after receiving an Award of Excellence in commemoration of the 2022 World Orphans Day, from St. Kizito Orphanage, Agbàhor, Delta State, at the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.

Audu-Ohwavborua thanked the Orphanage for appreciating his contributions and personal efforts at supporting orphans through the years, assuring them of the unalloyed support of the NDDC for orphans in the Niger Delta region.

The NDDC boss stated: “There is nobody who is self-made. This Award is in recognition of my efforts to ameliorate the hardships endured by orphans. As NDDC, we will do everything possible to support orphans in the Niger Delta region.”

The Acting MD stated that as an orphan himself, he knows that God uses people to help him. “Today, my heart goes out to all orphans in the world,” he said.

Audu-Ohwavborua remarked: “I will like to implore everyone to lend a helping hand to any ophan around him or her. That help will go a long way and at the NDDC, we will continue to support the orphans any way we can, both individually and as a corporate entity. That should be the message to the world today.”

Earlier, while presenting the award, the Chaperon of St. Kizito Orphanage, Mrs. Benedicta Esiri commended the NDDC boss for his empathy towards orphans, noting that the Award of Excellence was well deserved.

She noted that the World Orphans Day is an important date for everyone to come together and show that they care about the orphans in their community.

“Millions of young children face problems because one or both of their parents are no longer in this world. It is important for the community to make arrangements for their education, health, shelter, food, and social well-being.”
