9 Ghanaians sentenced for traffic Cannabis

IKOYI, Lagos –  A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on Friday sentenced nine Ghanaians to 72 years imprisonment.

Justice Akintayo Aluko convicted and sentenced the Ghanaians for conspiracy and dealing in cannabis and thereafter sentenced each of them to eight years in prison for their attempt to smuggle 10,843.95kgs cannabis into Nigeria through the sea.

Those tried, convicted and sentenced include Victor Wuddah, Freeman Gazul, Adotete Joseph and Sottie Moses. Also convicted are; Sottie Stephen, Christian Tette, Kanu Okonipa, Daniel Koyepti, and Kanu Natte.

The arrest and parade of the culprits by the Lagos State Commandant of   Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Douglas Edenabu Okoro Eweka in February 2021, before being transferred for further investigation and prosecution by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

According to Femi Babafemi, the Spokesperson for NDLEA, the convicts were arraigned in charge number FHC/L/292C/2021.
