LAGOS, Nigeria – Presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, Mr. Peter Obi, who has been consistent in winning all the online polls so far conducted ahead of the 2023 general election has said that Nigerians will choose him as their president from the 18 candidates contesting the election as a result of trust.
Peter Obi who was speaking on Arise News Xchange said Nigerians believe he is trustworthy and competent enough to hand over the management of resources into his hand.
He challenged Nigerians to go to Anambra State, stressing that if they find any land allocated to him in or out of government, he will stop campaigning. He also challenged Nigerians that if they find any of his relatives appointed as commissioner while he was governor, he will stop campaigning.
He explained that he did not accept severance package at the time he was leaving office.
He also said that Nigerians know where he was born, the primary and secondary school he attended before he proceeded to University of Nigeria Nsukka, Oxford and Cambridge.
Peter Obi said 50 percent of what is today regarded as subsidy is fraud adding that he will remove subsidy but will do it quickly to bring in the private sector in addition to building modular refineries, adding that eventually the price of petrol may not be as high as it is at present.
Peter Obi who said his manifesto will soon be released said it is 95 percent completed and that the manifesto is anchored on sustainable development goal, security of life in the country, issue of rule of law, fighting corruption and making the country productive and creating jobs.
He explained that his foreign policy will be centred on Africa, but what is important is to focus on the domestic sector, the home front by revamping the economy.
“We will put in place what will make Nigeria productive and take Nigeria from consumption to production, turn around our manufacturing sector, put our economy in order, create jobs and attract foreign investment”, he said.
He explained that there is no problem with debt but what you use the money borrowed for. He said what is needed is to increase the revenue and restructure the system.
According to him, Nigeria’s debt to GDP ratio is low, while debt to revenue is high, “so what we need to do is work on revenue side, to move Nigeria from consumption to production”, he said.
Peter Obi explained if he becomes President, he will focus on providing solution and not to blame the past government. He said he will restructure Nigeria by consensus, constitutionally.
He also promised to rejig security from local to state and federal government and that he will not bother himself with the past in terms of fighting corruption but to deal with the current problems.
