Police nabs 2 for theft of railways properties

EBUTE-METTA, Lagos – Nigerian police on Tuesday arraigned two men, Ifeanyi Ejem, 28, and Olamilekan Ajibade, 34, before Chief Magistrate A.O Akinde of the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court in Lagos stealing properties of the Nigerian Railways Corporation, NRC.

The defendants were charged with 2-count bordering on committing a felony to wit stealing,  offences contrary to Section 411 and punishable under Section 412 of criminal law Lagos state 2015.

Part of the charge read, “That you Ifeanyi Ejem and Olamilekan Ajibade around 7am at Railway Compound Ebute-metta, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District did steal six pieces of train spear parts value not yet known, property of Nigerian Railway Corporation Ebute metta, Lagos.”

The defendants pleaded guilty to the charges. The prosecuting counsel, ASP Katuka Jibo told the court that the defendants were arrested with the item by Inspector Akase Gabriel in charge of operation during a foot patrol.

Jibo said, “ASP Benson Kennedi arrested the defendants with six pieces of train spare parts along Oyingbo market area of Lagos.

“Further investigation was carried out and it was revealed that the items were stolen from the Chinese Railway compound at Ebute Metta. The first defendant, Ejem broke into the compound and cart away with the items, but the second defendant, Olamilekan met him on the way at Ijora area and challenged him.

“After the plea of the first to the second defendant, they both agreed to sell the items at Oyingbo area and share the profit were the men of police arrested them.”

Chief Magistrate Akinde further adjourned the matter until August 12, 2022, for judgement.
