Coronavirus pandemic spikes again in Nigeria
LAGOS, Nigeria – The Coronavirus Pandemic is not yet over in Nigeria. If there is anything to worry about, the pandemic is once more on a rapid rise in Nigeria.
Signs that the pandemic was easing begin in the early May when daily reported cases across the federation by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC dropped to an all time low of 13 in May 21.
But by May 28, the total cases of COVID19 in Nigeria rose to 24 and since then there has been no looking back for the pandemic. It has been spiking day after day.
By June 2, the total figure of Coronavirus pandemic reported by the NCDC in Nigeria has risen to 347 new cases, with Lagos reporting 265 cases, Imo 47, Rivers 15, Edo 11, FCT 4, Akwa Ibom 2, Plateau 2 and Bayelsa 1.
So far, total confirmed cases of Coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria now stands 257, 637, while 250, 287 patients have been discharged. Total deaths since the outset of the pandemic now stands at 3, 144.
This rise, which has been attributed to lackadaisical attitude among Nigerians who have throne caution to the winds. “Nigeria no longer wear face masks, since the Ministry of Health made it optional while the routine hand washing and use of hand sanitisers have become almost a thing of the past in Nigeria, even social distancing”, Dr. A. George, a health expert has said.
With the current trends, it appears a 4th wave of the Coronavirus pandemic has commenced and it has also become the trend in UK and some other part of Europe where routine healthcare procedures put in place at the outset of the virus have all been relaxed.
