Peter Obi is LP Presidential candidate, NLC
“Truth is that the bull has already left the barn. Nigerian workers, youths, students, women, professionals, the disable and the unemployed have embraced the Labour Party as the political vehicle of the downtrodden, the political alternative and a voice for the restart of a genuine journey of national development. There is no amount of political devilry that can stop us. Forward Ever, Backward Never”

LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC has affirmed that Mr. Peter Obi remains the only Presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
In a statement, President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, said the Labour Party, LP was created by the NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC.
He said the NLC and the TUC recognize Labour Party led by Barrister Julius Abure, a former trade union leader and worker as part of the leadership.
“The TUC and NLC are aware of only one Presidential Primary which was held at Asaba, Delta State on 30th May, 2022, and produced HE, Peter Obi as its presidential candidate and standard bearer”, Wabba, said, adding that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC “monitored the presidential primary that produced HE Peter Obi. INEC recognizes only the Labour Party leadership lead by Barrister Julius Abure and the National Secretary, Alhaji Farouk Umaru Ibrahim. They are the only Labour Party officials, whose details are provided on INEC website”, he said.
He affirmed that the leadership of NLC and TUC gave full support to the processes that produced HE Peter Obi as the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and that Nigerians youths, women and all that attended the primary were satisfied about what transpired at the convention.
“We understand that with the current repositioning of the Labour Party as the party for workers, youths, students, women, traders, farmers, professionals, physically disabled persons, the unemployed and the downtrodden, the Labour Party has become albatross of establishment, political parties who have suddenly become jittery and are devising all forms of conspiracy theories and subterfuge to distract the Labour Party from ongoing mass mobilization efforts for sweeping electoral victory in 2023 general elections”, the party said, adding that recruitment of one Calistus Okafor, who has no locus standi to speak for Labour Party should be disregarded by the general public.
The NLC urges Nigerians to regard Calistus Okafor as nothing but a storm in a tea cup. Forward Ever, Backward Never”, the NLC president said .
He encouraged all to register and safeguard their PVC ahead of the 2023 general elections.
