LAGOS, Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has released additional 209 machines to enable more Nigerians register to vote in the 2023 general elections.

INEC made the statement after an emergency meeting following massive turnout of Nigerians to register to vote.

In a statement, Mr. Festus Okoye, Chairman  Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC said the 209 machines will be deployed to Lagos, Southeastern states and Kano, where there has been massive turnout  of Nigerians, especially youths to take part in the exercise.

“The commission will monitor the exercise over the next few days, thereafter it will meet to review the progress of the exercise”, Okoye said.

He added that every step will be taken and all options will be explained to ensure that all eligible Nigerians are given opportunities to register as voters.

“The commissions appeals for patience and understanding of all citizens. Every Nigerian who is  18 years of age and above has the constitutional rights to register and to vote in any part of  the country, he/she resides without let or hindrance.

“The sudden surge is an affirmation of the increasing confidence Nigerians have in our electoral process. The commission will continue to ensure that this confidence is sustained”, he said.
