LAGOS, Nigeria – Former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has said that he did not authorized purchase of the All Progressive Congress(APC) Presidential form for him.
He noted that buying a presidential aspiration form in the name Dr. Jonathan without his consent, knowing the position he had held in this country, is considered an insult to his person.
Jonathan spoke following purchase of the APC Presidential form by a group of almajiris in the north who said they were purchasing the form for the former president because he deemed it fit to remember the almajiris during his administration by building schools for them.
In a statement, Ikechukwu Eze, the Media Adviser to H.E. Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan said it has come to his notice that a group has purportedly purchased Presidential Nomination and Expression of Interest form, of the All Progressives Congress APC, in the name of former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan stating categorically that Jonathan was neither aware of the bid neither did he authorise it.
According to him, if the former President wanted to contest an election, he would make his intentions clear to the public and that he will not enter the race through the back door.
“We wish to categorically state that Dr. Jonathan was not aware of this bid and did not authorize it.
“We want to state that if the former President wanted to contest an election, he would make his intentions clear to the public and will not enter through the back door”, he said.
While appreciating the overwhelming request by a cross-section of Nigerians, for Dr. Jonathan to make himself available for the 2023 Presidential election, the statement added, that the former President has not in anyway, committed himself to this request.
He added “Buying a presidential aspiration form in the name Dr. Jonathan without his consent, knowing the position he had held in this country, is considered an insult to his person. The general public is therefore advised to disregard it”, he said.
