JALINGO, Taraba, Nigeria – Christians earlier today came out enmass  in Taraba State to protest the lynching of Deborah Yakubu, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto that was lynched in the state.

Deborah was lynched, following altercation between her and fellow students who had asked her how she passed her examination. Her reply was “Jesus”,  which Muslim students perceived as Blasphemy against Muhammed.

They pelted her. According to school authorities, Deborah was forcefully rescued  and brought to the school security post where the mob mobilized and retrieved her forcefully before she was set alight.

Many have criticized authorities of the school, blaming them for not doing enough with all their security and policemen in campus to save Deborah’s life.

In protesting the death of the student, the Christians under the umbrella of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN(Taraba) stormed Jalingo,  with placards such as “Silencing others rights is not right; Give Peace a chance; We are for Taraba Peace”, among others

According to them, Nigeria is a secular state  and that everyone should practice his religion in peace and people should not kill for God or take law into their hands.
