LAGOS, Nigeria – Hon. Balogun Rotimi Olatunbosun, popularly known as BRO, is now officially an aspirant under the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, contesting for the ticket of Ikorodu Constituency 1 seat in the Lagos State Assembly.

The Businessman and Estate Development / Management Expert declared his intention to vie for the seat in the 2023 general election at a ceremony held inside the premises of the party secretariat, on Thursday, April 28, 2022, on Olubi Street, in Ikorodu.

Addressing the party leaders, members and his supporters at the funfair-like event, Dr. Balogun said he came into the race to enhance governance, alleviate sufferings of his Constituents, and also give equal opportunities to both the rich and the poor in the society.

He noted that he desires a society where the sons and daughters of a nobody as a result of the opportunities he intends to provide would be transformed into somebody notable in the society.

“I saw the bad representation being given to the Constituency by those given the privilege to represent us at the Lagos State Assembly. It now looks as if we do not have capable children who could represent us well in the Assembly.

“We are well travelled and have seen what true governance and representation are all about. We often asked ourselves, why is it that we cannot have such developments and dividends of democracy that we see elsewhere in our own community.

“Today, when we talk about Ikorodu, it is usually about negative vibes of cultism, land grabbing, pickpocketing and even armed robbery, because the youths have not been adequately engaged positively, as agents of true change,” Dr. Balogun said.

He recalled how his team and himself introduced a program tagged, “Idle Hands, The Devil’s Workshop” sometimes in the past to engage the youth.

“That program was meant to assist the youths of Ikorodu to become gainfully employed. Those who want to learn vocational trade were assisted under the program with apprenticeship placements and were eventually assisted financially to get the needed tools to start business or trade fully.

“I must say that the first solar panel that was ever installed in Ikorodu Division by anybody was commence by my team and I in the year 2020. You can Google it to confirm. It’s online.

“Also, in our manifesto, we have programs for education. We have noticed over the years that our young ones are leaving schools without any concrete plans by the government for them in the labour market. Similarly, there are some children, who want to go to school, but do not have finance or support to do so. We can do something for these set of children? And I’m delighted to inform you that we have programs for all of such situations.

“We also have a strategically structured health programs for the less privileged in the society. The program is a sort of free HMO for people in the Constituency to take care of minor health challenges such as malaria, high blood pressure, and even common feverish condition.

“We shall also ensure adequate security in the Constituency. We believe that instead of using over 24Million-Naira to buy just one Hilux vehicle for security patrol, such money could be put into better use to buy about 15 Sienna cars that could be branded for effective and efficient security patrol of popular blackspots in the Constituency,” Hon. Balogun concluded.

Earlier, Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State, Oshin Olanrewaju, who was represented by his deputy, urged the aspirants and party members to shun confrontation and abusive campaign utterances.

He noted that the aspirants should ensure their campaigns are issues based and not full of names calling, hate speeches, bitterness or resentment.

“We cannot continue to fight ourselves and expect the party to move forward. Aspirants and party members, especially supporters of the aspirants must take their battle outside to the opponents not intra party. It is important for us to know that our ultimate goal is for the party to win the election, but if we are already fighting within ourselves, there’s no way we would win at the poll,” Dr. Olarenwaju said.

The highlights of the well attended declaration of intent include the presentation of certificates of endorsement to Hon. BRO by two different youths’ organizations – the Odua Youths Parliament, OYP, and the Nigeria Youths Consultative Forum, NYCF – pledging their supports for his ambition.
