Court strikes out N1.7bn suit against Wema Bank
IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – A magistrate court sitting in Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos has struck out a suit marked MIK/B/6/2022 between Commissioner of Police Vs Adewole Isaac & Kingsley Ananwude, who are staff of Wema Bank for alleged stealing and money laundering involving N1.7 billion .
Magistrate A. O Layinka struck out the suit following advice from the Department of Public Prosecution, DPP that no prima facie case has been established against the defendants.
The banks therefore urged members of the public to ignore any information to the contrary in in the media, adding that there is no merit in any article under circulation which contravenes proceedings of the magistrate court.
“The bank wishes to state categorically that there is no merit in the article and it is a malicious publication against members of staff and the bank’s customers”.
It added an aggrieved third party in the name of Timi Popoola voluntarily released his property to be used as part of collateral to secure a loan obtained by the bank’s customer.
