SEOL, South Korea – A South Korean conservative politician of the Peoples Power Party,  Yoon Suk-Yeol has been elected president of South Korea in an election that saw a total of 44 million registered voters.

Already, his liberal opponent and member of the Democratic Party, Lee Jae Myung has conceded defeat and congratulated the president elect, Yoon Suk-Yeol.

Aged 61, Yoon Suk-yeol is a former public prosecutor in South Korea  and he was Prosecutor General between 2019 and 2021 under President Moon Jae-in.

He was educated at Chungam High School, Seoul National University. He attended his elementary school at Daegwang Elementary School at Joongrand.

Yoon secured  over 48.6 percent of the votes against his rival Lee Jae-myung who had 47.8 percent after 98 percent vote count.

Yoon who will be sworn into office in May  said on Thursday that he will honour the constitution and the parliament and work with opposition parties when he takes office.  He describe his election as a “victory of the great people”.

He will serve a single five-year
