Grassroots sports : Achina lifts Aguata community shield football competition

ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Achina community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, has emerged champion at the recently concluded 2022 Aguata Local Government area football tournament.
The competition tagged “Aguata Community Shields (Football Competition for Communities in Aguata)” was sponsored by the founder of Tropical Gate Foundation for Sustainable Development, Apostle Nnamdi Nwaigbo.
Achina emerged the overall winner after defeating Ekwulobia 6 – 5 at Central School field Amesi , Aguata local government area of the state. The winner went home with N500,000,while the second runner up, Ekwulobia smiled home with N300,000 and the third position Oraeri community got N200,000.
The competition saw the participation of 14 communities in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State. During the competition, we gathered that Enugu Rangers football club and Enyimba football club were on ground to scout for players.
Speaking at the end of the tournament, Apostle Nnamdi Nwaigbo said the initiative was designed to groom talents for greater tomorrow.
According to him, God has blessed him and he wants to use God’s blessing upon his life to touch the lives of the younger generation in the community to find their bearings.
“My mission in this initiative is to raise men and women through sporting activities. I want to impact positively on the lives of the youths in the community. I just want to add value to growth and development of Aguata community. God has blessed me and I want to bless others ” he said.
He said the competition was organised in a bid to engage the youths and the society in sports to discover the sporting talents among the youths, secure their future and impact positively on the society, among others.
According to him, he decided that the best way to live his life was to impact on the lives of people ,noting the foundation apart from sport is into education ,health care and others .
Chairman of the local organising committee of the competition, Dr. Whyte Nwankwo said that the competition was to expose some amazing sporting talents among the youths of Aguata communities.
He also disclosed that foundation has some partners like University of Nigeria Nnuska ,and some local clubs who come to scout for players. According to him, last year some players were discovered and their names were forwarded to Anambra state sport ministry.
Also speaking at the tournament , the president general of Amesi , Leo Muora commended the sponsor for organising such an event that will expose the younger generation to greater opportunity .
According to him, the competition is the kind of thing the community would be praying for and called on others to emulate the good gesture.
