ONITSHA, Anambra – The Coordinator  of Anambra State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa has disclosed that  a total of 1,558 corps members deployed to the state are confirmed to be COVID-19 free.

The State NYSC Coordinator, made the disclosure   during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2022 Batch A’ (Stream 1) corps members  at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, in Awka South local government area.

She said that the total number of corps members deployed to the state ,  840  are males, while 878 are females and that  they are all fit for the exercise.

According to her, the corps members deployed to state have been tested and confirmed fit for the exercise. She also said that they were  kitted and accommodated in line with COVID-19 protocols.

The Coordinator, who also represent the Scheme Director General, Major General Shaibu Ibrahim, at the ceremony, urged the corps members to stay away  from cult related activities and spreading  of fake news.  She urged them to maintain the cardinal principle objectives of the NYSC, that centres on promotion of national unity and integration.

“The Scheme, was designed to equip you for the tasks of the service year through lessons on the cardinal programmes, leadership coaching, paramilitary drills and other physical trainings as well as sensitization on topical national issues, amongst others.

“It is also a platform for kick-starting various activities that will enable you realize your potentials and attain individual feats both within and beyond the period of service. I therefore, enjoin you to avail yourselves of this once-in-life-time opportunity by participating actively in all the Camp activities, she added.

She commended the House of Representatives for the progress made so far in the legislative processes on the Bill for the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund.

She also thanked the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), for their continued support towards safe and efficient conduct of the Orientation Course within the context of the “new normal.
