Senegal wins AFCON 21
YAOUNDE, Cameroon – It was another classic encounter at the African Cup of Nations, AFCON, during the final encounter between Senegal and Egypt that ended in favour of Senegal.
Although, Egypt managed to wade through the group stages, but it succeeded in finding its way into the finals at the Stade Olembe stadium.
Although it was it was a well planned strategy by Egypt who got to this stage winning all 4 penalties, fortune this time chose to smile on Senegal, the best team on African soil by latest FIFA ranking, who won the tournament 4-2 on penalty, to pick their first AFCON cup.
But it was not an easy one for Senegal who actually dominated the field of play by 53 percent against 47 by Egypt.
Egyptian goal keeper, Edouard Mendy with shirt number 16 picked man of the match for the superb role he played in coordinating his team during that encounter.
But as often noted in sports, while some among the Egyptian players were sad over the development, the Senegalese shed tears of joy even as they go about consoling fellow Egyptian teammates in Europe.
Vincent Aboubakar won golden booth while Sadio Mane was best player in the tournament.
