LONDON – Prince of Britain, Prince Andrew and Virginia Roberts Giuffre have agreed to settle out of court. Virginia Roberts Giuffre had sued the British Prince alleging that was sexually assaulted by Prince Andrew when she was 17.
In the new deal filed in British court today requires Prince Andrew to make an undisclosed substantial donation to the charity operated by her accuser, Virginia Giuffre.
Giuffre’s counsel, David Boies informed the presiding judge that a settlement in principle has been reached and that lawyers on both sides will request a dismissal of the lawsuit within a month.
A widely publicized letter signed by Boies said lawyers to parties involved in the suit are asking the judge to suspend all deadlines and put the case on hold.
Virginia Giuffre, an American sued Prince Andrew in August, alleging that the Prince sexually abused her while she traveled with her financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The British Prince had severally denied the allegations and had threatened to sue for defamation before the settlement came out of the blues.
Attached to the letter by Boies was a statement that read: “Virginia Giuffre and Prince Andrew have reached an out of court settlement. The parties will file a stipulated dismissal upon Ms. Giuffre’s receipt of the settlement (the sum of which is not being disclosed).
“Prince Andrew intends to make a substantial donation to Ms. Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights. Prince Andrew has never intended to malign Ms. Giuffre’s character, and he accepts that she has suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks.”
In the statement, Prince Andrew agreed that Epstein trafficked “countless young girls” over many years and said the prince “regrets his association with Epstein, and commends the bravery of Ms. Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others.”
