ONITSHA, Anambra – The Chairman and CEO of Anambra State Disability Rights Commission(DRC), Barrister Chuks Ezewuzie has inspected business facilities in Awka to assess compliance with People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) accessibility, two days after inauguration,
The chairman in an unscheduled visit to Everyday Supermarket, a newly commissioned business premises in Awka confirmed that State Disability Rights Law is being implemented .
He commended the management of the mall for complying with the accessibility features demanded of public buildings but made recommendations on needed readjustments that must be made so as to make the mall more inclusive.
Responding to the findings the manager Engr Solomon Anyakwelu said that persons with disabilities can make use of the facilities on the first floor for the meantime and promised that the firm would make necessary amendments.
Also Commissioner in charge of Cluster Services in the DRC and an Executive Assistant to the Governor On Disability Services, Hon Ugochukwu Ernest Okeke commended the management for the proper inscription of all the sections and noted that it would help the deaf to navigate their ways.
The Public Relation Officer and Head of Media in DRC, Miss Chidimma Ajemba stated that the ramp leading to the first floor was too sloppy and suggested that a second hand rail be installed.
She also said that the construction of a lift would further ease movement through the floors in the mall.
