AFCON 2021: Senegal crushes Burkina Faso 3-1 in semi final clash
DOUALA, Cameroon – The West African team, Senegal this evening showed class in the encounter with Burkina Faso, leading their opponent 3-1 at the end of the first semi final encounter at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
It was a tension soaked encounter that ended goalless in the first half but Senegal came into the second half more determined.
Their efforts paid off in the 70th minutes when Abdou Diallo found back of the net, setting the 50,000 capacity Stade Omnisport de Douala in wild excitement.
Bamba Dieng made it 2-0 for Senegal 6 minutes later. But Burkina Faso drew one back in the 82nd minutes when he found the back of the Senegalese net.
The excitement did not last long. Just five minutes later, Sadio Mane extended the lead and made it 3-1 for Senegal. The winning side kept up with the pressure until Weyesa Bamlak, the central referee blew his final whistle.
In terms of ball possession, Burkina Faso secured 54 percent against 46 by Senegal. Shot on target, Senegal had 9, while Burkina Faso had just 3. In terms of corner kicks, Burkina Faso had 7 against 5 by Senegal. Senegal had 2 yellow cards, while Burkina Faso had just one.
