Senegal wallops Equatorial Guinea 3-1 at AFCON 2021
DOUALA, Cameroon – Senegal on Sunday evening lived up to its rating at the 50,000 capacity Stade Omnisport de Douala in Douala, Cameroon when it walloped Equatorial Guinea 3-1 to become the 4th team to pick a semi final ticket at the ongoing African Cup of Nations, AFCON in Cameroon.
The encounter will no doubt go into history as one of the best games of the AFCON 2021. Senegal took the lead in the 28th minutes when Famara Diedhiou found back of the Equatorial Guinea net.
But Jannick Buyla made it 1-1 in the 57th minutes, when he hit the back of the net to bring his team back into the game. But Cheikhou Kouyate made it 2-1, putting Senegal in the lead once more in the 68th minutes.
Equatorial Guinea struggled spiritedly to come back into the game until the 79th minutes when Ismaila Sarr extended the lead for Senegal to put scores at 3-1 and in the process sealing all hope for Equatorial Guinea.
Senegal held on to the scores until the final whistle. However, it Equatorial Guinea that had the highest ball possession, 52 against 48 by Senegal, which nevertheless had more shots on target, 4 against 3 by Equatorial Guinea and 4 corner kicks against the loser, which managed to secure just one corner kick.
