Novak Djokovic may miss Australian Open
AUSTRALIA – Number one Tennis Star, Novak Djokovic has been denied entry into Australia ahead of the Australian Open which is due to start on Monday, January 17 to 30 2022.
He was denied entry due to issues related to Coronavirus vaccination. Organisers of the Australian Open had said that only vaccinated athletes would be admitted into Australia during the championship.
There was however a waiver for athletes with documented evident of adverse reaction to the vaccine and athletes who have become immune to the virus after surviving an attack.
However, Novak Djokovic who had in the past voiced his opposition to vaccination became one of those granted exemption from Coronavirus vaccination fuelling uproar in Australia, making many to voice the belief that some athletes are above the rules.
But this was put to rest when Djokovic was denied entry upon arrival. Reports say his lawyers have appealed the denial and trial fixed for next week ahead of the Australian Open.
However speaking on the development, Australian Prime Minister, Mr. Scot John Morrison said rules are rules and that nobody is above the law. He said those entering Australia require double vaccination or medical exemption.
