Egypt beats Morocco to move into AFCON semi finals
YAOUNDE, Cameroon – Egypt this evening joined the likes of Burkina Faso and Cameroon to cruise into the Semi Finals after beating Morocco 2-1 in another classic encounter at the 42, 500 Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde, Cameroon.
Both North African team came into the game very determined to pick the Semi Final ticket but it was Egypt that got the upper hand at the end of the encounter.
Morocco however took the lead in the 7th minutes when Sofiane Boufal hit the net from the penalty spot to put his team ahead of Egypt and held on to the score line until the first half.
Egypt came into the second half hungry for an equalizer, which came in the 53rd minutes, when Mohamed Salah found the back of the net to make it 1-1 before full time.
Egypt however made it double in the 100 minutes in extra time when Trezeguet hit the back of the Moroccan net to give his team a 2-1 lead setting the Egyptian spectators into wild ecstasy. Egypt held on to the game until the final whistle.
In terms of statistics, Egypt secured 51 percent of ball possession against 49 by Morocco. In terms of shots on target, Egypt had 4 while Morocco got just 3. Egypt also got 6 corner kicks against 3 by Morocco. It equally had 4 yellow cards against 2 by Morocco.
