Algeria beats Tunisia 2-0 to win Arab Cup
AL KHOR, Qater – After a very explosive encounter at the Al bait Stadium, one of the stadiums earmarked for the Qater 2022, it was Algeria that retained the upper hand, beating Tunisia 2-0 to win the Arab Cup which has been used by FIFA as a dry run for Qater 2022.
It was not however an easy encounter as both teams maintained a goalless score even at full time, forcing the game to go into extra time.
The extra time seems to be the tonic the Algerians needed to demonstrate that they remains the champions of the desert when Sayoud made it 1-0 for Algeria, while Brahimi made it 2-0 in extra time after 120 minutes of play, with 5 minutes into injury time and held on till the referee blew the last whistle to make the dry run a grand success ahead of the Qater 2022.
The game recorded a total of eight yellow cards, shared equally among the two best teams in the Arab cup. But Tunisia had the greatest ball possession of 47 percent, while Algeria, the eventual winner had 43 percent.
But in terms of attempts at goal, Algeria had 19, while Tunisa has just 17. Shots on goal, Tunisia had 3, while Algeria had 7 . But in corner kicks, Tunisia 6, while Algeria had 10 but Tunisia had more dangerous attacks, doing 80 against Algeria that had just 77 attacks.
