LAGOS, Nigeria – The social media is abuzz as donations continue to flood the current account of Nigerian music sensation David Adeleke, better known as Davido.
In 24 hours over N100 million hit the musician’s account. The latest is that he has gathered over N150 million in less than 48 hours. In specific terms a total of N151 458, 030.52 million has hit his account and the donation bazaar has continued over a social media post made by the musician.
Some say that musician said he needed N100 million to clear his Rolls Royce, a vehicle he purchased and parked in his garage in the United States some months back. Another account had it that the musician was preparing for his 29th birthday and challenged his fans and lovers to make a donation into his account if they really love him.
Born in 1992, Davido will be 29 in November 21, less than one week from now. Davido had often projected himself as a philanthropist, making donations and helping many people he has never met but reached out to him via the social media. He is a staunch believer in the expression, “We rise by lifting others”.
Among those shooting the first salvo is Theranos, who said “ Ok, you had your fun@Davido, HahaFunny Joke. Now please come out and either return everyone’s money or announce the charitable cause you plan on donating to. This is actually really sick”, she fumed. Osai Ovie Success said Davido should donate the money to charity instead of using the money to clear his Rolls Royce
But Flosy Florence challenged the pop star to give the money to charity if he has an integrity.
Reacting, Gossip boyz said the musician is as poor as a church rat. “ I don’t think you are rich, if you are rich you would not be stealing from the poor”, he said.
However, Videowheetv countered him, saying Davido is succeeding in his fundraising because he remains the biggest and most powerful influencer in Africa both on the internet and on ground. “He is a good man”, he added.
But Prince Tosin chipped this in: “Stop counting other people’s money, but start investing in the value you bring to the table. Davido didn’t raise N100m because he has a large fan base but because everyone in his circle has benefited off his blessing, expertise and wealth of experience in one way or the other.
Reacting to Flosy Florence, popupar DJ Daddy Freeze, said she should perish that thought of integrity. According to him, “you can’t tell a person what to do with money you did not contribute. Especially when he did not coerce poor people to exchange their hard earned money for blessings. His friends gave him the money so where’s this thought of integrity arising from. When you get yours contribute it to charity”, he said.
While the debate raged, many who don’t have seems to be missing out in this donation bazaar to Davido’s cause. However one thing remains clear in this donation that those making the contribution are expecting nothing in return from Davido unlike in politics when you contribute expecting to gain something later on in the future or giving hoping to receive more which testifies to Davido’s goodness.
