ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Over 2000 youths made up of 34 groups across various denominations and towns in Anambra state have declared their support for the governorship ambition of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo.
The youths groups made their stand known during a town hall meeting with the guber candidate in Awka Anambra state capital on Thursday evening . The theme of the town hall meeting was : “Political, Socio & Economic development of Anambra State.”
They said that the ZLP candidate remained the most and the only prepared candidate to pull the state out from dungeon of economic hardship to the pedestal of economic growth and development.
The youth groups who spoke in their numbers expressed disappointment at the performances of the previous administrations and said that time has come to change the narrative and to elect capable leader that would not only pilot the affairs of the state but also turn around the fortune of the people.
One of the youth leader Mr. Stephen Okeke decried the terrible state of roads in the state especially the Awka- Amansea old road which had put the citizens, resident in the state to undue sufferings.
He also stated that time has gone when politicians used palatable words to deceive the youths and subject them to perpetual sufferings.
Also speaking, the National President of Igbo socio cultural group, Igbo-Ezue International, John Nwabueze urged the youths to change the narrative in the state by massively voting for the right candidate that would take care of their needs.
The convener of the meeting , Comrade Uchechukwu Paul, said ZLP governorship candidate Okonkwo remained the most prepared candidate for the election.
He said Okonkwo, connections and antecedents speaks volume of the impact he would make if elected the governor of the state. He said “if Okonkwo is given the opportunity, he would implement his visions which is to make the state the very best in the country. The youths have to do their best to elect a man who will not fail them.”
Earlier at the event, the ZLP Anambra chapter chairman, Comrade Uche Ugwoji urged the people to shun vote buying as many youths had mortgaged their future by money politics. He urge the people to exercise their franchise as that was the way to remedy the poor performances of the previous administrations in the state .
Ugwoji who represented the party flag bearer, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, at the event said the ZLP chose wisely to present a candidate without a godfather.
According to him, the party considered the billionaire businessman because of his vision to reposition the state through effective and efficient leadership.
Ugorji who is also the State Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), informed the Youths that Okonkwo’s policy framework was more of job creation and youth empowerment programmes, which would reduce crime rate and increase productivity, economic growth and development of the State.
He tasked the youths to sustain mobilization and sensitization of electorate in their various communities on the need to come out and vote for ZLP candidates.
