LAGOS, Nigeria  – The Managing Director/CEO of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, has charged residents and shop owners of Ajiran Community in Eti-Osa Local Government area, to take responsibility for their wastes, by patronizing the assigned PSP operator, and to pay their waste bills promptly.

Odumboni, at a meeting with the monarch of Ajiran Community, HRM Oba Tijani Akinloye, attended by representatives of CDAs/CDCs, council chairman, landlords, market leaders, health officers, street captains and others, expressed deep-seated dissatisfaction with the state of their environment.

He told them to mobilize youths to police the black spots, stressing that waste service was not free, warning that further environmental infractions would receive the full weight of law.

The Chief Technical Officer, Dr. Olohunwa Tijani, also charged the residents to support the Authority, towards achieving a clean and sustainable environment. Some shops in the neighbourhood were sealed up for reckless waste disposal, as a deterrent to would-be defaulters.

In his response, the monarch of Ajiran Community, HRM Oba Tijani Akinloye, lauded LAWMA MD/CEO and other management members, for their efforts at keeping Lagos clean, which after all was to their advantage.

He promised that he would mobilise stakeholders in his community, to join hands with the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in ensuring full compliance with the environmental laws of the state, to keep their surroundings clean.

Also on ground at the meeting, were the Assistant General Manager East District, Mr Adesina Adewale; Assistant General Manager, Lekki Free Trade Zone, Mrs. Bola Adewunmi; head of Advocacy Unit; Mr. Victor Adedeji; head of ICT Unit; Mr Tosin Olaniyan and others.
