DSS releases Nollywood star, Chiwetalu Agu
LAGOS, Nigeria – Nollywood star, Chiwetalu Agu who was arrested by officials of the Nigerian Army and those of the Department of State Service, DSS has been released.
He was arrested for wearing an attire that the security agencies perceived to be the flag or colours of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB. He was arrested last week at the Upper Iweka, Onitsha, Anambra State, a development that sparked outrage on the social media.
The actor had consistently told his assailants that he committed no offence for merely wearing an attire with the rising sun and distributing bread he bought for the poor and hungry.
Agu who was later taken to Abuja was released following the intervention of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Mike Ozekhome, who stepped in to fight the case of the actor after taking a brief from the Actors Guild of Nigeria, lead by Emeka Rollas.
Chiwetalu Agu was released on Tuesday evening to representatives of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN in Abuja by operatives of the DSS.
