Media partnership key to achieve world top 200 varsities – Prof. Esimone
ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria – Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikwe University (UNIZIK) Awka, Prof. Okechukwu Esimone has said that media partnership is sacrosanct if his school must achieve the vision of being among top 200 in the world.
Esimone made the statement when he received the new executives of the Correspondent’s Chapel of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council during a courtesy visit in his office on Monday in Awka. He said that the university required professional services of the media to inform the world what the school was doing.
The university administrator said, since assumption of office, he has adequately upgraded the school’s community radio (Unizik FM) and the Public Relations department. Esimone who commended members of the chapel for their professional coverage of activities in the school since he assumed office, assured that he would continue to partner with the media for more effective results.
Earlier, Chuks Ilozue, Chairman of the chapel said they were in the university to reiterate the resolve of the organisation to work in partnership with the school.
Ilozue said there was the need for various schools and departments to interface with his group on significant achievements recorded in the university. Tony Okafor, another member of the chapel who spoke noted that both the university and media in Nigeria share the same path on great Zik of Africa, the late Dr Nnamdi Azikwe in whose honour the school is named.
“The great Zik of Africa who was named after this University was the first Nigeria to acquire diploma in Journalism and as such we are committed to ensure that this Unizik is among the best in the world”, Okafor said.
